Definition: A
significant point in development
Today I turn 50 years old.
A milestone in its own way. I am
healthy, happy and loved. I feel like I’m
in my 30’s and my future looks bright!
I have had many milestones through this journey of training for
my ride to Conquer Cancer:
My first road bike bike ride –
September 11, 2012
My first 100km bike ride –
October 26, 2012
Hitting the 1000km mark in a
season – November 12, 2012
Attaining my fundraising goal
($2500) – January 2, 2013
Surpassing the $5000 mark –
February 20, 2013
Each moment gave me time to stop and think about why I was
doing what I was doing. For Jennifer and
for all of the other names on the list I have amassed. To beat this thing called cancer.
Cancer patients have their own milestones:
Shirley has gotten through her chemo treatments and is on the way to recovery.
Carmel passed her very important 5 year milestone.
Patty danced with the monster 3 times and is now cancer free.
Each
milestone makes these women stronger and I couldn’t be more honoured that I
know them all.
Today, when I blow out the MANY candles on my cake, I will make several wishes: that I remain healthy, happy and loved. And that the world achieves its own milestone with the eradication of cancer. Hopefully some of my milestones will be the driving force needed to achieve that.
